On May 11th 2011, thousands of disabled people marched through the streets of London to Parliament to say NO to the Cuts on disability benefits. It was the largest disability march in history, about eight thousand people attended. The cuts have hit disabled people hard, many people face losing DLA resulting in them being unable to work. Further, cuts to the care budget means many people are being denied the vital support needed to maintain their independent lives. At the rally MPs and representatives from disability organisations criticised the government for attacking the most vulnerable.
Throughout the march many people were chanting, “Are you listening, are you listening, are you listening in the house!” and “No Ifs, No Buts, No Disability Cuts”, waving their placards from all over Britain.
After the march, many people had meetings with their MPs to lobby them about the cuts. If you want to continue lobbying your MP don’t forget Radar’s MP Disability Dialogue.
WE WILL FIGHT ON!
